Work in Progress: TANGLEWOOD
I grew up on a steady diet of detective novels and old Vincent Price horror films. I was also a fan of the Addams Family television series. What I liked most about the Addams Family is that they didn’t seem to realize (or care) that people found them bizarre. I also read every Agatha Christie novel featuring the detective Hercule Poirot and enjoy reading (and watching) Sherlock Holmes.
If you blend Sherlock Holmes with Wednesday Addams and add a dash of teen angst, you have Liberty Smith, the 12 year-old detective in TANGLEWOOD. She’s intelligent, witty and a little strange. I hope you like her.
For the setting – a decaying mansion in a misty seaside village of Maine – I have taken inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Alan Poe, Du Maurier’s Rebecca, and those old Vincent Price horror films.
I was assisted in writing TANGLEWOOD by Lola my feline office manager. Lola recently passed away and is sadly missed.
